BOOK REPORTS

A book report is the term used to refer to an essay that discusses the contents of a book. It may be written as part of a class assignment that is issued to students in schools, mainly at the elementary school level.

Teachers often give students various books from which they may choose a book for the report. The teachers can set a list of books by use of methods like including the works of a certain author, reading out loud different works to students and having every student select one among the books for the report, or choosing the books through a selection process of a class.

A book report’s content, for a fiction work, typically includes basic bibliographical information concerning the work, a narrative’s summary and setting, main stories’ element of key characters, the purpose of the author in creating the work, the opinion of the student concerning the book, and a theme statement that sums up the main idea that is drawn from the book after reading.

The process of writing stories and narratives of the main characters is made easier by advising the students to write the sequence of action summaries, story journals or the so called story pyramids.

Book reports can at times be accompanied by other creative works like illustrations, report covers or dioramas.

Individual book reports’ components may also be made into different artistic works, that include pop-up cards, character diaries, word searches, story maps, game boards and newsletters.

Students are also advised to produce a report in different stages, these stages include prewriting, writing of the first draft, revision, first evaluation, rewriting and editing, publishing as well as post-project evaluation.
