The term character refers to that which is involved in the action of a story. The more the character in the story, the easier the story becomes.

There are some character types that must be found in every story. Once you know the types of characters, you will be in a position to notice it more and more when you read a story or watch one. Having knowledge of the role of the characters in a play assists one in refining the plot, choosing a narrative style and tightening the prose.

It is important to note that these are not the only characters that we have, there are also other types of characters.

A story is divided in three major parts, we have the beginning, the middle and the end.

THE BEGINNING.

This is what takes place or happens Immediately at the start of the story. Purpose to get the viewer’s or the reader’s attention. Make sure that you inform the reader of the goal that the main character has. Also introduce the main character as well as other major characters. Towards the end of the beginning, you should throw something sad, heartbreaking that would leave your readers wanting to know what happened next.

THE MIDDLE.

Through this stage, the character is still trying to achieve his or her goal. There should be more challenges and more obstacles in the middle stage. It is advisable to set several major obstacles and a few minor challenges. The character should overcome the minor challenges to give hope to the reader. As the reader gets complete trust on the character, bring a major challenge that draws back the character. Towards the end of this stage, give the story a new twist that either places the character closer to his goal or very far from it.

THE END.

This stage is very similar to the middle, only that it involves wrapping up conflicts and minor goals problems. Here, the character should achieve his or her goal. However, you may also choose to twist the story, where at the end, the character gets nothing.
