Our body is wonderful. It helps us to do so many activities like playing, eating, sitting, singing, painting, jumping and so much more.
Have you ever wondered how we are able to do so many activities? Different parts of our body help us to do these activities.
In this lesson, we will learn about the different parts of our body, parts that we can see with our eyes and parts that we can't see because they are inside our bodies.
Think about your bicycle. It has many different parts like wheels, handles, pedal, brake, and chain. If you separate its parts, will it still work? No. Only when ALL its parts are intact will the bicycle work properly.
Similarly, our body has different parts. All of these parts work together to perform different functions. Our body has many parts and each one has a different name and use. Let’s know the names of our body parts.
A round shape ‘head’ at the top.
A box shape ‘torso’ in the middle.
Branch-like ‘limbs’ at the end and sides.
Below picture shows these three sections:
When you stand in front of a mirror, what do you see?
You see a beautiful face like this below:
The front part of our head is called ‘face’. Our face has different parts.
When you pick a toy, you use your arms, hands, and fingers. We can write, paint, lift things and hold colors with our hands. We hold a pencil with our fingers.
Look at the below picture. The long rod-like shape is our arm. We have two arms and two hands. On each hand, there are five fingers. So, we have 10 fingers in both our hands.
When you walk, run, and jump, you use your legs, feet, and toes.
We have two legs and two feet.
On each foot, there are five toes. So, we have 10 toes on both our feet.
Try to bend your arm. The place at which it bends is called ‘elbow’.
Below picture shows the elbow.
Try to bend your leg. The place at which it bends is called ‘knee’.
Below picture shows the knee.
The head is placed on a pipe-like part called ‘neck’.
The two parts of the body at each side of the neck that join the arms to the rest of the body are called ‘shoulders.’
Once again, stand in front of a mirror, and take a deep breath. Do you see the part that rises up when you breathe in and drops back when you breathe out? This is called ‘chest’.
Face, eyes, mouth, neck, arms, and legs are the parts of the body that you can see and feel.
Your body is more than what you see when you look in the mirror – there are more parts that we cannot see. They are inside our bodies.
What gives shape to our bodies? There is a framework of ‘bones’ under our skin that supports our body. Do you know why earthworms can't stand up? Because they don't have bones. If we could remove everything but bones from our bodies, our bones would still be shaped like a person.
This is how our bones look inside our bodies.
This is our head. Inside our head, we have ‘brain’. The brain controls all our actions, feeling, and thoughts. When you want to run, how do you tell your legs to move? It is your brain that sends a message to your body part to do the action.
Inside our chest, we have ‘heart’. It helps move the blood in the body.
On both sides of our chest, we have ‘lungs’. We have two lungs – one on the left side, and one on the right side. They help move air in and out of our bodies. They help us breathe.
Do you hear growling noises when you get very hungry? It comes from your ‘stomach’. When you eat that yummy food, it goes to ‘stomach’. The stomach changes the food into energy which is used by our body.
Just above the stomach on the right side, we have ‘liver’. It is dark reddish-brown in color and is shaped like a cone. The liver removes harmful materials from our blood and cleans our blood.
In our lower abdomen, we have a pair of ‘kidneys’ shaped like red kidney beans. They are almost the size of your fist. The most important job of the kidneys is to filter liquid waste from the blood and get rid of it in the form of urine.
So, we have 1 brain, 1 heart, 2 lungs, 1 stomach, 2 kidneys, and 1 liver. These are the six important internal parts of our bodies.
